Cases Over $10 Million
In Re Citi Equity Securities, USDC Central District of California, MDL No. 1082. Mr. Hoey was lead counsel in this fraud case. Settlements totaling over $12 million were reached.
Karatz, et al., v. Fine, et al., United States District Court for the Southern District of California, Case No. 92-2172 WJR. Mr. Hoey was co-counsel in this class action involving fraudulent real estate investments. Settlements of over $18 million were achieved on behalf of the investors.
Small v. Sunset Park Investments, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. CA 001225. Mr. Hoey was co-counsel for the plaintiffs in this action arising out of a fraudulent investment enterprise. Settlements in excess of $12 million were achieved on behalf of the investors.
Cases Over $1 Million
Routledge v. Southwest International Exchange, San Diego Superior Court Case No. 669348/Alcocer v. Southwest International Exchange, San Diego Superior Court Case No. 687051. Mr. Hoey was lead counsel for over 300 plaintiffs who lost money in a fraudulent currency exchange operation. Mr. Hoey secured settlements and judgments totaling over $8.5 million on behalf of the investors.
Gonzalez v. Dresick Farms, Imperial County Superior Court Case. Mr. Hoey was co-counsel in this personal injury case which went to trial in September 2007. The resulting $5.64 million verdict was the largest single-plaintiff verdict in El Centro history.
Kennedy v. City of Imperial Beach, San Diego Superior Court Case No. 627642. Mr. Hoey obtained a judgment of $2.5 million in this wrongful death case.
John Doe v. David Roe. San Diego Superior Court Case. Mr. Hoey tried this case involving a dispute over ownership of a construction business to a liability verdict, and then obtained a confidential settlement totaling over $2 million.
Damian v. Costa, San Joaquin Superior Court Case No. CV027776. Mr. Hoey obtained a settlement of $1.8 million for an immigrant worker and his family arising out of a fire that killed their two young daughters.
Cody v. CSI, San Diego Superior Court. Mr. Hoey obtained a settlement of $1.8 million in this litigation over the sale of a printing business.
Mobley v. Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District, Santa Barbara Superior Court Case No. 1165240. Mr. Hoey obtained a settlement of $1.75 million in this injury case, the largest ever settlement against the Metropolitan Transit District.
Bogosian v. Settlors Corporation, San Diego Superior Court Case No. 647723. Mr. Hoey represented a retired individual who had been defrauded out of a $1.2 million parcel of real property. On the eve of trial, defendants agreed to reconvey the property to Mr. Hoey’s client.
Wathan v. Merced Sheriffs, United States District Court Case. Mr. Hoey tried this police misconduct wrongful death case in June 2009. Defendants’ settlement offer was zero. The resulting verdict was $1,200,000.00.
Cases Under $1 Million
LaForest v. Melito, San Diego Superior Court Case No. 669944. Mr. Hoey settled this vehicle accident wrongful death case for $870,000.
Barkal v. Waldman, Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Hoey successfully tried the liability phase of this medical billing case and then obtained a settlement of $850,000 on behalf of his client.
LeClair v. Nguyen, San Diego Superior Court Case No. GIC 853828. Mr. Hoey obtained a settlement of $775,000 for his client’s back injury resulting from a vehicle accident.
Gonzalez v. Venetian Restaurant, San Diego Superior Court Case No. 670249. Mr. Hoey tried this injury litigation and obtained a judgment of $750,000.
Louder v. Vasquez, Kern County Superior Court Case. Mr. Hoey tried this minor impact truck accident case in June 2007. Defendants pre-trial offer was $25,000. The resulting verdict was $743,000.00.
Davis v. Andonian, San Diego Superior Court Case. Mr. Hoey obtained a settlement of $600,000 in this motorcycle v. auto injury litigation.
Phillips v. Palmer, San Diego Superior Court Case. Mr. Hoey tried this personal injury vehicle collision case in July 2008. Defendants’ pre-trial offer was $75,000.00. The resulting verdict was $412,000.00.
L & M v. Tuna Del Pacifico, United States District Court Case No. 93-1626B (RBB). Mr. Hoey obtained a $400,000 settlement for plaintiffs in this action involving a fraudulent conveyance of a vessel.
Trident v. WCW, Los Angeles Superior Court. Mr. Hoey obtained a settlement of $400,000 for his clients arising out of a marketing dispute over WCW wrestling videos.
Meyer v. Reyes, Imperial Valley Superior Court No. L-01092. Mr. Hoey settled this auto v. pedestrian case, involving a shoulder injury, for $390,000.
P.S. Fishing v. Hiller Aviation, U.S.D.C. Southern District of California. Mr. Hoey tried this case arising out of a helicopter crash and obtained a verdict of $350,000 for the helicopter owner.
Gullo v. Borrego Springs School District, Imperial Valley Superior Court. Mr. Hoey obtained a settlement of $300,000 for a 13 year-old girl who was burned on her leg by scalding water in a failed classroom science experiment.
